Twitterep was a start-up concept Planet Telex mocked up in the early days of Twitter. It was conceived as an “honest” way to use Twitter as a marketing tool. While the product was never brought to market, we enjoy the design we presented, a playful spin on the interface that Twitter had at the time. A particularly fun element of the design was the left and right background images, which stay fixed as the browser resizes.
Not only did Planet Telex create this mockup, but we made a functional prototype using Grails. The basic framework was a routing engine for Twitter messages, coupled with a layer of analytics our software added. Ultimately the project failed to get funding among an atmosphere of cynicism regarding social marketing.
